FHP: Arcadia man convicted after driving 110 mph, causing fatal crash

Mason Gregory Jeter, of Arcadia, has been convicted of Vehicular Homicide, following a two-day jury trial in Charlotte County.

Jeter was arrested in December of 2023 for a fatal crash that occurred on Sept. 21, 2023. Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash that happened on I-75, near mile marker 150, in Charlotte County.

The defendant was driving a 2022 Ford Mustang GT 500, traveling south, in the center lane. A 2018 Dodge Challenger was also traveling south, in the left lane.

The left side of the Mustang, hit the side of the Challenger. This collision caused the defendant’s vehicle to travel off the road. He hit a tree and flipped his car. The other driver’s vehicle also went off the road and into a tree, killing the 37-year-old driver.

The FHP investigation of the crash determined the Mustang, driven by the defendant, was traveling at 110 mph immediately prior to crashing and three of the tires on the car were defective as they were bald, with no tread left on them.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 2, 2024.
