The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the driver of a car who fatally struck a man on the side of US-27 in Lake County.
Troopers say the crash happened on Monday just before 7 p.m. on US-27 at Margaux Drive.
They say a 37-year-old man was standing in the outside southbound lane of US-27 behind his disabled car, waving over traffic as a tow truck driver was helping him get his car off the road.
According to FHP, an unknown vehicle didn’t move over and hit the 37-year-old man and drove away.
The driver reportedly continued to drive south on US-27, turned right onto Margaux Drive, and struck a decorative rock in the center median before turning around to the flee the scene south on US-27.
The 37-year-old man who was hit was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness told FHP they believe the person who hit the man was driving a white Kia Soul with an Indiana license plate.
