UPDATE: The Florida Highway Patrol tells TV20 a 39-year-old man from High Springs died in the crash. FHP says the driver veered into the right shoulder and off the road, hitting an information sign before colliding with a tree. FHP says it’s unknown why the driver left the roadway. FHP says the driver was the only person involved in the crash. ORIGINAL STORY: Alachua Police Department (APD) officers said at least one person is dead following a crash on I-75 south of the Alachua exit.
It happened around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. As of 6 p.m., Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers reported the right lane was blocked.
Authorities asked commuters to avoid the area, near mile marker 399, and to expect significant traffic delays.
