FHP investigating fatal hit-and-run crash in Orange County

A woman was killed and at least two other people were injured in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the crash happened around 12:40 a.m. at the intersection of Sand Lake Road and Winegard Road. Troopers said a Honda Odyssey minivan was stopped in the westbound inside lane of Sand Lake Road for the red light when it was rear-ended by a BMW X3 that failed to stop.

The occupants of the BMW then fled the crash scene on foot. FHP said that Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to apprehend one of the BMW’s occupants. The 25-year-old Kissimmee man was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Troopers are trying to determine who the driver of the BMW was at the time of the crash.

The driver and passenger in the Honda Odyssey were both transported to ORMC from the scene. The driver, a 47-year-old Orlando woman, was pronounced dead from her injuries. Her passenger suffered serious injuries in the crash.
