FHP: Man walking on SR-528 dies after being struck by car

Troopers say a man died after a car struck him early Monday along State Road 528 in Brevard County.

Florida Highway Patrol said the collision happened as the man walked eastbound along the Beachline Expressway where it merges with State Road 3, also known as Courtenay Parkway.

A Honda Accord, also traveling eastbound on that stretch of SR-528, struck the man around 12:20 a.m., according to FHP.

Investigators said the pedestrian was dressed in dark clothing and walking in the path of the car.

The Honda’s driver told troopers he did not see the man on the roadway.

First responders rushed the pedestrian to Cape Canaveral Hospital, but he died from his injuries.

FHP did not release his name but said he was a 22-year-old Palm Bay resident.

Troopers said the Honda’s driver, 31, of Melbourne, stayed on site following the crash, which remains under investigation.
