FHP: Motorcyclist hospitalized after multi-vehicle collision on I-10 Friday afternoon

An initial crash involving a motorcycle prompted a secondary collision on Interstate-10 near mile-marker 206 Eastbound Friday afternoon, according to a press release from Florida Highway Patrol.

No one in the secondary crash was injured, but a 52-year-old motorcyclist from Mississippi is hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.

The initial incident began when the motorcyclist traveling eastbound on I-10 in the left lane lost control for unknown reasons, which caused the driver to be thrown from the motorcycle, FHP said.

“[The motorcyclist] and the motorcycle came to a final rest in the center grassy median,” authorities said.

To avoid the crash, a pick-up truck stopped in the road while the truck behind it slowed down. However, the driver of an SUV did not notice the slowing traffic, and caused a collision involving the two trucks, according to troopers.

The crash caused a sizable backup on I-10 between Capital Circle NE and the Mahan Rd exit. As of 5:15 p.m., eastbound traffic began slowly flowing again..
