The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after one person was killed in a crash on Interstate 75 in Marion County Tuesday afternoon.
According to the FHP, the crash happened around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday near Mile Marker 358 in the southbound lanes of I-75. Troopers said a Honda van traveling southbound veered off the roadway toward the center median before the driver attempted to overcorrect and crossed every lane to enter the exit lane toward state Road 326. A semitruck attempted to avoid the Honda by veering toward the right but was unsuccessful. The front of the semitruck collided with the right side of the Honda van.
Both vehicles came to a stop on the outside shoulder of the southbound lanes. The Honda’s driver was seriously injured, and two other passengers in the van were transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. A third passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The semitruck’s driver sustained minor injuries.
