Firefighters rescued two cats from a house fire early Monday morning in Lutz.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) said they got a call around 3:15 a.m. from the family inside the home on Blount Road. The callers said there was “smoke and flames coming from inside their house and that animals were trapped inside,” according to a news release from HCFR.
The first crews that got to the scene reported a “heavy fire” coming from the garage that was spreading toward the rest of the house. HCFR said firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading and controlled the blaze within 30 minutes.
The street reportedly had a lack of fire hydrants, so crews used “water tanker[s]” to put out the fire.
Crews searched the house after the fire was extinguished and found two cats, the news release said. No one was inside the home, but HCFR said there were “a few other animals [that] were not accounted for.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The American Red Cross was called to help assist the family, who is now displaced as the home is currently uninhabitable, according to HCFR.
