Firefighters rescue resident from Fort Pierce house fire, family of eight loses home

Firefighters say they had to rescue a resident from a structure fire that engulfed a Fort Pierce home Monday morning.

A column of smoke greeted them as they approached the scene around 10:20 a.m., according to the St. Lucie County Fire District (SLCFD).

One resident was rescued from the home and transported to the ground, according to a SLCFD Facebook post.

In total, four adults and four children lost their home to the blaze. Firefighters say the Red Cross was called to provide the family emergency services.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
