The Florida Highway Patrol arrested a man accused of a hit and run crash that killed one and seriously injured another in Lehigh Acres in March.
The suspected hit and run driver, Jose Manuel Aguiar-Meza, 40, of Lehigh Acres, was booked into the Lee County Jail on Monday.
FHP says they are continuing to investigate the crash that happened on 40th Street SW and Rena Avenue S on march 28.
During the initial on-scene investigation, troopers say it was determined that a pickup truck turned left in front of an approaching motorcycle on 40th St SW.
The motorcycle operator was identified as 54-year-old motorcyclist John Vanwy who was pronounced dead on the scene.
The passenger, Lillie Walters, 53, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.
The truck fled from the scene, according to reports.
On March 30, FHP released photos of the suspected truck which was a 2017 GMC Sierra. Investigators are still searching for the truck at this time.
According to FHP, Aguiar-Meza was booked on an active felony warrant.
Aguiar-Meza is facing two charges including leaving the scene involving death and leaving the scene involving serious injury.
The judge set bond at $500,000 for the first count and $250,000 for the second count.
According to reports, Aguiar-Meza will have to surrender is passport and can not contact the victim involved in count two.
Aguiar-Meza’s next hearing is scheduled for October 7 at 8:30 a.m.
