Florida Highway Patrol: Truck catches fire following single-vehicle crash in Navarre

A single-vehicle accident on SR-87 resulted in a vehicle fire with the driver trapped inside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Officials said a Ford F-150 occupied by one person was travelling southbound on SR-87 when it crossed the center median and began traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.

The truck then left the roadway and collided with a handrail and drainage culvert, according to the FHP.

Authorities said evidence indicated the driver then accelerated up the ditch and struck a utility pole.

The truck then rolled at least once and landed on the roof before catching fire, according to officials.

The driver was trapped inside, but authorities said fire department personnel were able to pull the driver out and extinguish the fire.

The driver was flown to an area trauma center for treatment and officials said they are continuing to investigate.
