Florida trooper hit by drunk driver while responding to Polk County crash, officials say.

In Polk County, Florida, an intoxicated driver collided with a Florida trooper who was responding to an accident, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 a.m. on US-98 near Florida Avenue. According to the FHP, as the trooper was making a left turn onto Florida Avenue, a 20-year-old Lakeland man driving a Hyundai Accent disregarded a red light on US-98 and crashed into the passenger side of the patrol car.

Both the 51-year-old trooper and a passenger in the Hyundai sustained minor injuries.

The Hyundai driver, identified as Jesus Eduardo Cano Zamora, also suffered minor injuries and was subsequently arrested. He now faces multiple charges, including DUI and driving without a license.
