Fort Lauderdale woman accused of stabbing man she knew from homeless program

A 40-year-old woman is facing serious charges after police say she stabbed a man multiple times in Fort Lauderdale last month.

Fort Lauderdale police identified the suspect in an arrest report Thursday as Angela Paulette Eugene.

The incident occurred on Dec. 8 when Fort Lauderdale police were called to the Circle K gas station near 951 W. Sunrise Blvd.

The victim told police that he encountered Eugene earlier that day at the Family Dollar, where she pointed him out and reportedly said, “That is the one who f—– me up,” according to the report.

The two were familiar with each other, police said, as they had previously been enrolled in the same homeless program.

The day before, Eugene and the victim were involved in an altercation at the same Family Dollar location, during which police said Eugene sustained injuries, including a fractured wrist and a head wound.

On the day of the stabbing, investigators confirmed that Eugene approached the victim with an unidentified man, whom she later claimed she did not know.

As the victim walked away from the Family Dollar and headed east on Sunrise Boulevard toward the Circle K, Eugene’s companion reportedly followed him, according to an arrest report.

The victim told police that the accomplice tackled him to the ground and held him down while Eugene used a large knife to stab him multiple times on the right side of his body, the report stated.

Witnesses corroborated the victim’s account, stating they saw the attack as they drove along Powerline Road near West Sunrise Boulevard.

After the stabbing, police said Eugene and her accomplice fled northwest through the plaza, police said.

A witness called 911 and followed Eugene and two others as they left the scene.

Officers were directed to Eugene’s location, but authorities said her two accomplices managed to escape.

Police later took Eugene into custody near a dumpster, where investigators said they found a backpack containing a sheath for a large knife and a case card for the Dec. 7 incident belonging to her.

Eugene initially told police she saw the victim at the Family Dollar but denied being with anyone else during the incident, the report stated.

However, surveillance footage from the area contradicted her statement, showing Eugene and her accomplice arguing with the victim before the accomplice restrained him, allowing Eugene to retrieve a knife from her backpack and stab the victim, according to police.

Investigators said the victim was taken to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment of multiple stab wounds, including a small laceration to his liver. He provided a sworn statement to police and expressed his intent to pursue charges against Eugene.

Although police confirmed that Eugene and the victim were known to each other, the arrest report did not disclose a motive for the stabbing. Police said Eugene remains in custody as investigators continue to search for her accomplice.

Jail records show she is facing one count of premeditated attempted murder.

As of Thursday, she is being held without bond at the Paul Rein Detention Facility.
