Golf cart driver seriously hurt in wreck near The Breakers resort

The driver of a golf cart was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a collision with a small SUV near a Palm Beach resort.

According to the Palm Beach Police Department (PBPD), the crash happened around 1 p.m. at the intersection of S. County Road and Pine Walk, which is in front of The Breakers. Authorities did not indicate what happened to cause the wreck.

The golf cart’s driver was taken to the hospital, the police department’s statement continued, adding that the SUV’s driver was not injured. PBPD did not indicate if anyone else was in either vehicle at the time.

The wreck forced authorities to shut down a stretch of S. County Road, near Royal Poinciana Way, for a little more than a half-hour.

The PBPD investigation is still ongoing.
