A man and a woman suffered from smoke inhalation on Sunday afternoon during a dangerous residential fire in Fort Lauderdale.
According to F G, a Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesman, a heroic 27-year-old man was “overcome by smoke” while rescuing a woman from the house fire along Whale Harbor Lane, near Riverland Road in the Lauderdale Isles neighborhood.
J A, who lives in the area, said he was getting ready to watch the Miami Dolphins game when he heard “a big explosion, crackling” and “explosion after explosion.”
G said firefighters found flames and smoke at the home and a shed with propane tanks. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel with a HAZMAT unit responded to burn off the propane in the four tanks.
FLFR personnel took the injured man to Broward Health Medical Center. The woman did not need to be hospitalized since her injuries were less severe, according to G. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
