Hammer-wielding Ocala man looking for robber arrested after entering stranger’s home

A 24-year-old Ocala man who was looking for the person who allegedly robbed him was arrested after he entered a local residence and threatened the homeowner with a hammer.

On Monday, September 23, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the 2500 block of NE 4th Avenue in Ocala in reference to an altercation. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the male victim who advised that a hammer-wielding man, later identified as Rangel Perez Torres, had entered his home without permission, according to the arrest report.

The victim told the deputy that Perez Torres demanded to know where the person was that “robbed him of his money.” The deputy noted in the report that the victim did not know Perez Torres, and he had no knowledge of Perez Torres being “robbed.”

According to the victim’s statement, Perez Torres allegedly threatened to hurt him with the hammer. As a result, the victim feared for his safety.

Shortly after making the alleged threats towards the victim, Perez Torres left the residence. The report stated that the victim followed Perez Torres back to a home located in the 2600 block of NE 49th Avenue, and the victim provided this location to law enforcement.

The deputy responded to the residence on NE 49th Avenue and made contact with Perez Torres, who matched the description that was provided by the victim. After being read his Miranda rights, Perez Torres allegedly admitted to entering the victim’s home because he was “looking for the man who robbed him of $5,000.”

During the post-Miranda interview, Perez Torres advised that he had a hammer “tucked in his waistband” during the incident at the victim’s home, though he denied threatening the victim with it. When asked about the person who allegedly robbed him, Perez Torres was unable to provide any details regarding the person’s identity, according to the report.

Perez Torres was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $100,000 bond. He is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and armed burglary of a dwelling structure or conveyance.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
