A Hardee County corrections officer was arrested in Mulberry on Saturday after he was accused of driving drunk and causing property damage.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said D K, 28, crashed into a sign at the exit of a subdivision.
Kennedy showed “maximum signs of impairment” at the site of the crash and breathalyzer tests revealed readings of 0.137 and 0.139, according to PCSO. He told deputies he visited the subdivision for a party and he “consumed five shots of alcohol.”
“He also repeatedly told deputies that he was a Florida Department of Corrections Officer at the Hardee Correctional Institution, and that this arrest was going to cost him his job,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a news release.
K was charged with DUI and DUI with property damage.
“D K was arrested for driving under the influence with a significantly high blood alcohol level,” Polk County Sheriff G J said in a statement. “This reckless behavior is unacceptable and puts our community at risk. Not only did he choose to drive intoxicated, but he hit a sign, which could just as easily have been a person.”
