‘Heartbroken:’ Oviedo police officer dies in Lake Nona crash

Jimmy Serrano-Torres III, 36, killed in single-vehicle wreck

OVIEDO, Fla. – An Oviedo police officer was killed Friday evening in a single-vehicle crash in the Lake Nona area of Orlando, authorities said.

Officer Jimmy Serrano-Torres III, 36, died from his injuries at the scene, the city of Oviedo said Monday in a statement.

“Our department is heartbroken and devastated by the loss of Officer Serrano,” said Police Chief Dale Coleman. “He was not only an outstanding officer, but also a bright light in our community. Always professional and courteous, he earned the respect of his fellow officers and the citizens he served. He will be deeply missed.”

It’s not known if Serrano-Torres was on duty at the time of the wreck.

Orlando police are investigating the fatal crash and they said the investigation is ongoing.

Serrano-Torres, a patrol officer, started at the department in August 2021.

He is survived by his parents and siblings.

Funeral Services for Officer Serrano-Torres will be held on Thursday, April 17 at the Newcomer Funeral Home located at 3806 Howell Branch Road in Winter Park from 5-9 p.m. Services will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and speakers will be from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
