Heavy rain causes flooding in some Orange County neighborhoods

Persistent rain caused significant flooding in northeast Orange County on Wednesday.

The flooding mainly affected Lake Pearl, near University Boulevard and the 417.

“I’m, I’m kind of devastated. I don’t really understand what’s going on. Like I said, It’s OK Luce. We have had hurricanes and everything, and it’s never been like this, so after just a rainstorm or two, I’m very shocked,” neighbor Paula Saunier said.

Orange County workers actively monitor the flooding and have placed numerous cones to urge drivers to exercise caution.

Water covers the street on Landmark Drive off University Boulevard, and in some areas, it is close to the entrances of homes.

The relentless rain has swollen nearby Lake Pearl, Lake Burkett and Lake Martha.

A nearby retention pond is also contributing to the flooding.

Orange County staff have deployed a pump and are closely monitoring the situation.

One neighbor mentioned that storms caused similar flooding on Saturday afternoon, but it cleared out in about a day.

However, the current rain has led to more flooding.

The county is monitoring the flooding on the other side of Lake Pearl on Bridgewater Drive closely.
