A food-related argument between two roommates in Hialeah escalated into a stabbing on Tuesday evening, leaving one man injured, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
Hialeah police reported that officers responded to an apartment in the area shortly before 7 p.m. and found the victim with stab wounds to his arm and thigh.
The dispute reportedly began over food and intensified when police said 33-year-old Reiniel Campaniones Ulloa allegedly armed himself with a kitchen knife.
Witnesses told police they managed to disarm the suspect, but moments later, Ulloa returned with a gardening machete and re-engaged in a second altercation that turned physical, according to an arrest report.
During the confrontation, police said Ulloa reportedly stabbed his roommate in the left arm and upper left leg, narrowly missing a major artery.
Police confirmed the victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital but did not release his age, identity, or current condition.
Following the incident, authorities said Ulloa was taken into custody and is facing one count each of second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police said Ulloa made spontaneous statements during the arrest, though further details were not released in the publicly released report.
As of Wednesday, he is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”Breaking News Alerts
