Two women are dead and another is in critical condition after they were t-boned by a Tesla that was traveling at a high speed.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) says at 3:57 p.m. a 19-year-old man driving a Tesla Model 3 was traveling west on NW Sixth Street and approaching the intersection at NW 27th Ave in unincorporated Broward County near Fort Lauderdale.
Deputies say around the same time a 2023 Dodge Durango carrying three women was heading southbound on NW 27th Ave, approaching the NW Sixth Street intersection.
Due to the Tesla’s high rate of speed, he T-boned the driver’s side of the Durango.
BSO says as a result of the collision the Durango was redirected and struck a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The Trax then rolled over on its roof before resting in the eastbound lanes of NW Sixth Street.
Meanwhile, the Tesla and the Durango continued southwest and crashed through a chain link fence that was surrounding a cemetery.
All five people involved in the crash were taken to Broward Health Medical Center where both the driver and the passenger in the Durango were pronounced dead.
The third passenger in Durango is in critical condition.
BSO says its preliminary investigation reveals that the high-speed is considered a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, deputies say.
