In a heart-wrenching incident on Jacksonville’s Arlington Area, a hit-and-run collision has resulted in the tragic loss of a four-year-old child’s life. The incident unfolded on Merrill Road, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
According to reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), the fatal collision occurred when a silver SUV, carrying both a driver and a child passenger, was traveling westbound on Merrill Road. Eyewitnesses on the scene recounted a light-colored sedan suddenly changing lanes, causing the SUV to veer off the road in an attempt to avoid a collision. The SUV subsequently crashed into a wooden telephone pole, causing significant damage.
Tragically, despite the efforts of emergency responders, the young passenger of the SUV, identified as a four-year-old child, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another child passenger were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
Compounding the tragedy, the driver of the light-colored sedan fled the scene, leaving behind a devastated family and community. JSO is actively seeking information from the public regarding the whereabouts of the sedan and its driver. Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
