Husband turns himself in after allegedly choking wife during argument

A Clermont man turned himself in Tuesday for allegedly choking his wife when a verbal argument turned physical.

On the night of Nov. 20, deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to an undisclosed Clermont residence regarding a verbal altercation, according to an affidavit of probable cause out of Lake County. Upon arrival, they met with the female victim who advised that on Tuesday, Nov. 19, she got into a verbal argument turned physical with her husband, 44-year-old J P M.

The victim stated that during the argument, M grabbed both of her arms and face, leaving her with visible bruising. He proceeded to place her in a headlock, at which time he began choking her. She could not breathe but did not lose consciousness, the affidavit said.

M then left the residence in her vehicle and did not return until the time of this incident. When he came back, they got into a verbal altercation about him taking her vehicle. He later fled on foot into the woods at the rear of their residence, the affidavit said.

The affidavit noted deputies observed visible bruising to the victim’s person, consistent with her statement.

On Dec. 9, contact was attempted with M at his residence without success, the affidavit said.

M ultimately turned himself in to Lake County Jail on Tuesday morning to face a warrant charging him with simple battery (domestic) and battery by strangulation (domestic). He was released after posting $3,500 bond.
