Impaired man accused of driving around fatal crash scene during investigation, Clearwater police say

A Largo man was arrested early Saturday morning after police said he drove around a fatal crash during an active investigation.

The Clearwater Police Department was at the scene of the crash in the 1200 block of Union Street for a motorcyclist who died after hitting a pole. Police had shut down both directions of Union Street.

Just after 3 a.m., D S, 31, drove around the activated emergency vehicles that were blocking the road during their investigation.

Once officers stopped S, they noticed signs of impairment.

S was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into the Pinellas County Jail. He is also facing a charge of escape after police said he tried to escape while being taken into custody.
