An investigation is now underway after fire damages a Molino church.
The fire broke out Sunday afternoon at the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church on Highway 95A, just North of Cedartown Road.
This isn’t the first time this church community has been impacted by fire. It’s a small church but a strong one.
“If I’ve got bread you’ve got bread,” New Hope Primitive Baptist Church D L T said. “You know if you hurt I hurt, that type of mentality, that’s just how strong our church is.”
Sunday afternoon, shortly after finishing a joyful service, the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church caught on fire.
“To get home not less than 30 minutes and get a phone call saying that your building is on fire, it’s heartbreaking,” D T said. “We come up here and we see that the back half of the kitchen area was ablaze. That is destroyed, we’ve got smoke damage all through the sanctuary.”
In addition to that, there were windows blown out, doors burned down, and the carpet was watershed. Thankfully, no one was inside.
Right now, the cause is unknown and the Bureau of Fire and Arson is investigating.
“It’s just a building and a building can be replaced,” D T said.
He says this is the 5th time the church has caught fire.
The last time was in 1991, that fire was blamed on arson and destroyed the church, but D T says that the church and its members are resilient and they’re already working to rebuild.
“We’re doing what we can do right now,” D T said. “It’s just a matter of time, it’s not an overnight fix.”
As they secure the building and create a plan moving forward D T tells me what they’re asking from the public right now is prayers.
