Two motorcyclists are dead and two other people are injured after a crash on Beach Boulevard Thursday night.
Belinda Di Spirito is still coping with the loss of her son, Gabe Di Spirito, not even 24 hours after speaking with him before his untimely death.
“Gabe is our baby; we have 3 boys,” said Di Spirito. “Gabe’s our baby. We were on the phone with him right before this happened to meet up for dinner.”
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a truck was traveling east on Beach Boulevard and two motorcyclists were going west. Both the truck and bikes approached Washburn Road at the same time.
Crash report shows the truck “initiated a left turn in the path of the two motorcycles causing both motorcycles to collide into the truck.”
The Di Spiritos were waiting for their son at dinner, only blocks away from where he crashed.
“We heard a big boom and right there and then my husband said that’s my son, that’s my son. My son was just lying there and I screamed and I was panicking, I was screaming,” said Belinda, “I was frantic. We were right there when this happened.”
These parents are now forced to relive a nightmare they’ve already lived once before.
“We lost his older brother, Colby two and a half years ago and he had a incident with a motorcycle as well, but it was a freak accident.”
Now after losing sons tragically in motorcycle accidents, this family wants to send a message to drivers on the road.
“Everybody needs to be aware that there’s riders out there. How are you going to just think there’s no one in front of you,” she said, “You see someone you let them pass and then you make the turn. This should have never happened. Never happened.”
