Juvenile dies after side-by-side crash in Melbourne, police say

A juvenile riding a side-by-side died after being pinned underneath the vehicle during a crash in Melbourne, according to police.

The crash occurred Friday in the area of Lakemont and Lakehill roads, the Melbourne Police Department said in a news release.

The side-by-side — described as an Arctic Cat model — rolled onto its side when its operator failed to negotiate a turn while traveling north on Lakehill Road, the release states.

The juvenile was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

It did not appear at the time of this report that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, according to the release.

Melbourne police are still investigating the crash. Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to call Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Goetsch at 321-616- 6088.
