A Florida Highway Patrol K9 helped track down an attempted murder suspect Wednesday in Escambia County.
Najee Rich, 25, is charged with:
- Attempted Homicide
- Robbery/Home Invasion with a Firearm
- Making a False Police Report
He is being held in Escambia County Jail without bond.
The charges stem from a Jan. 11 home invasion in the 200 block of E Johnson Avenue. Deputies say Rich shot someone during the break-in, and also suffered a gunshot wound from the victim.
FHP observed Rich speeding Wednesday in the area ofMichigan Avenue and Memphis Avenue.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says he also had illegally tinted windows and was “acting suspiciously, trying to conceal himself by lowering his posture and attempting to hide behind the b-pillar in his vehicle.”
A high-speed pursuit ensued, with Rich traveling more than 100 mph on Michigan Avenue in the rain. He eventually crashed into a pole.
Authorities say Rich tried to run from the crash, but troopers released K9 Colt, who “maintained the apprehension while Troopers placed the suspect under arrest.”
This is a developing story.
