Lauderhill police officer injured after being struck by vehicle in Sunrise

A police officer was injured while on duty in Broward County.

It happened at approximately 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of the 8200 block of Sunset Strip in Sunrise.

According to police, the officer was conducting an investigation when he and a female pedestrian were hit by a vehicle.

Both victims were rushed to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, according to investigators.

Dashcam footage obtained by Local 10 News shows the driver plowing into the officer and woman, reversing the car and pulling forward multiple times before leaving the scene.

The suspect was taken into custody a short distance away.

DN told Local 10 News he saw the whole thing go down.

“After the police officer had gotten out of the car, he had walked over to the side of the road to talk to a lady, and while he was talking to that lady, the guy in the blue Nissan Rogue proceeded to then back up his car and run over the police officer and the lady, sending them flying into the air,” said N. “He then proceeded to back up again, and run over the police officer again, over and over again, multiple times– about three-four times. The police officer was able to get up, crawl over to behind the trees you see behind me and take shelter behind there.”
