A lineman helping restore power to Peace River Electric customers took a break from restoring electricity to help save two occupants of an overturned vehicle following a crash in Florida on Sunday.
The company shared photos on Facebook showing the moment Cameron Elias, with PowerLine, came across an accident and leaped into action.
When Elias saw a vehicle with front-end damage in the middle of the road, he quickly spotted a second vehicle overturned on its side about 75 yards away.
Bystanders were attempting to rescue the occupants inside, so Elias rushed to aid them, according to Peace River Electric.
Elias tried using a trailer hitch to break the windshield but was initially unsuccessful, so he began to kick a small hole into the windshield instead.
Once the hole was started, he reached in and pulled chunks of the windshield out, using his work gloves to protect himself from the glass.
Eventually, the hole was big enough to pull both occupants free from the vehicle.
Elias, who is also an EMT, treated himself for a small cut he suffered on his right forearm before helping evaluate the pair for injuries.
“Cameron should be commended for his quick response and awareness in helping our community not only by helping restore power to those impacted by Hurricane Milton, but going above and beyond in responding to this traffic accident as well,” Peace River Electric wrote in the Facebook post.
