Man accused of carjacking woman at gunpoint at Miami Shores Publix

Police arrested one of two men suspected of an armed carjacking in the parking lot of the Miami Shores Publix over the weekend.

According to Miami Shores police, the victim told detectives that the two suspects approached her outside of the store, located at 9050 Biscayne Blvd., just before 8 p.m. Saturday, pulled out a gun and told her, “give me everything you have and the keys to your car.”

“The victim, in fear for her life, dropped her purse and car keys,” an arrest report states.

Twenty-two-year-old James Javis Walden and the other man took both items, got in the woman’s car and took off, police said.

Police said they spotted Walden and the vehicle in Hialeah a few hours later and took him into custody on an armed carjacking charge.

It’s not clear whether detectives have identified the second suspect.

Walden, of northwest Miami-Dade, was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Monday afternoon, jail records show.
