A man has been arrested for driving under the influence after allegedly crashing into a Cape Coral police vehicle.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, on Saturday around 2:40 a.m., officers responded to a crash near Diplomat Parkway and Andalusia.

The driver reportedly fled the scene after hitting a mailbox, a sign and an unoccupied police car.

Officers immediately checked with a 7-Eleven that was very close to the collision. An employee pointed an officer to a man who was in the back of the store with obvious injuries, potentially consistent with a car crash.

Officers began speaking with the man, Eric Vrskovy, who initially denied being involved in a crash but later acknowledged he was driving.

Vrskovy also acknowledged he had a few drinks. Later, at the hospital, his blood alcohol content was over .15.

Vrskovy is being charged with DUI greater than .15 BAC, DUI with property damage and hit-and-run with property damage.
