Man accused of randomly attacking senior, hurling his dog into bushes in Pompano Beach

A 72-year-old man walking his dog near the oceanfront of Pompano Beach became the victim of a random attack Sunday evening, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said besides attacking the senior, AT H, 35, of Fort Lauderdale, was violent towards the man’s dog. He did all this, they said, while out on parole for an out-of-state burglary.

According to BSO, the beating happened just before 7:50 p.m. Sunday in the area of 50 N. Pompano Beach Blvd.

Deputies said Harris walked up to the man and asked him, “What’s your name?”

They said when the victim refused to divulge it, “H grabbed him, threw him to the ground and then proceeded to punch him in the back of the head three times,” leaving the man with multiple scrapes.

An arrest report states that CCTV footage showed H grabbing the small dog by the leash and throwing it into a bush, “which could have injured the dog.”

Deputies said H resisted their efforts to arrest them.

BSO jail records show he was given an $11,000 bond on charges of battery on a person 65 or older, animal cruelty and resisting arrest. But he’ll remain locked up for violating the conditions of his parole.
