Police arrested a man on an attempted first-degree murder charge after they said he continually stabbed a victim eating inside a Taco Bell in Hialeah Sunday morning.
Hialeah police said E R M, 60, only stopped the brutal attack because his knife broke.
Authorities said that the customer had asked M, who is homeless, to “keep it down” after M walked into the chain’s 785 E. Ninth St. location just after 10:30 a.m. and “began talking loudly and (harassing) the employees.”
An arrest report states that M “then proceeded to walk over to a table where he had previously set down some bag,” grabbed two knives and made his way over to the victim, “who, upon seeing the knives, raised his arms to defend himself.”
M, police said, began stabbing the man, causing him to fall out of his seat and onto the floor.
He then “continued his attack by mounting the victim rendering him (defenseless) as he continued stabbing him throughout the body,” the report states.
“The force used by (M) caused the blade of the knife to snap in half,” police wrote. “Only then did (he) cease his attack and retreat into the men’s restroom.”
An officer arrived and the victim, “bleeding (profusely),” pointed to the bathroom and told him M was inside, police said.
They said that the officer ordered M out of the bathroom and took him into custody.
Medics took the victim, who suffered “suffered several stab wounds to the head and neck area as well as other portions of the body,” to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in Miami.
They took M to Hialeah Hospital for treatment for a cut on his hand. He refused to speak with detectives, the report states.
As of Monday, M was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Court records don’t list any prior arrests for M in Miami-Dade, Broward or the Florida Keys.
