A man was airlifted to a Miami hospital after he was struck by a boat propeller near Elliott Key.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday when the 55-year-old man suffered a leg injury near the Elliott Key Sandbar, U.S. Coast Guard officials said.

Coast Guard crews responded and gave the man first aid, then took him to the Boca Chita dock.

Video released by the Coast Guard Wednesday showed the man being taken off a boat and placed on a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopter before he was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center for treatment.
