An off-duty firefighter was able to knock down a dryer fire at an Ocala laundromat by entering the building and using an extinguisher.

Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the Ocala Express Laundry Center on East Silver Springs Boulevard in reference to a residential fire at 9:32 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15.

A 911 caller reported that a dryer was on fire and that smoke was emanating from the structure.

Before crews arrived on the scene, an off-duty MCFR firefighter entered the building and used a fire extinguisher to knock down the dryer fire.

At about 9:37 a.m., Rolling Greens Station #28 arrived on the scene and deployed a hose line to make an interior attack on the fire. Firefighters ensured the fire was out before checking to see if the fire had spread to other dryers and inside the walls.

The fire was eventually taken under control by 9:41 a.m.

According to MCFR, the cause of the fire was accidental and no injuries were reported to civilians at the scene.
