Man allegedly attacks girlfriend for asking about his drinking problem

Man allegedly attacks girlfriend for asking about his drinking problem

A Clermont man was arrested after allegedly attacking his girlfriend who came back from a night out and asked about his drinking problem.

A deputy responded to a domestic battery at a residence in Clermont at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The girlfriend of 28-year-old RQ stated they got into a physical altercation.

She explained that the argument started when she came back from being out with friends, and Q yelled about how she was never home. She questioned him about his drinking, to which he stated he drank an entire bottle of Smirnoff vodka. He became enraged and pushed her against the front door of their home, the report said.

He then grabbed the side of her neck and pinned her to the door. He never stopped her from breathing, only used his hand to hold her against the door. She tried to push him off herself but could not. He ultimately released her, and they separated. She sustained red marks on the right side of her neck, the report said.

The deputy next spoke to Q who admitted to starting the argument and pushing his girlfriend. He stated he did this in an act of self-defense because she came at him yelling in his face. They started to scuffle by the front door, the report said.

He mentioned they had past issues and arguments but denied ever physically harming her. He also stated he had a drinking problem, and this was a regular argument they had. He sustained red marks on his face from where she tried to get away, the report said.

The incident was deemed domestic in nature due to the couple having children and living together. Q was determined to be the primary aggressor, the report said.

As such, he was arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic) and transported to Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $500 bond.
