A 28-year-old Ocala passenger was killed on Tuesday morning after a vehicle ran a stop sign and crashed into the side of another vehicle in Marion Oaks.
The fatal accident took place at the intersection of Marion Oaks Boulevard and Marion Oaks Manor at around 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 40-year-old man from Reddick was driving a van westbound on Marion Oaks Manor, approaching a stop sign at the intersection of Marion Oaks Boulevard.
At the same time, another van was being driven south on Marion Oaks Boulevard by a 25-year-old Ocala man, approaching the intersection. That vehicle had the right-of-way, according to FHP.
As the vehicles approached the intersection, the van being by driven by the Reddick man ran the stop sign and struck the left side of the other van.
The second van, which had three occupants from Ocala, was redirected into a third vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign on the southwest quadrant of the intersection.
The passenger sitting in the back seat of the second van, the 28-year-old Ocala man, was killed as a result of the collision.
All the other occupants of the three vehicles sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The report notes that the driver of the van responsible for the incident was not wearing a seatbelt, and the Ocala man who lost his life was also not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
