Bowling Green man was arrested Tuesday for firing a shot toward another driver’s face during a road rage incident last week, the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office said.
On Friday morning around 6 a.m., deputies responded to the intersection of College Drive and US 27 in Avon Park to find the victim.
The victim told officials that the driver of a Chrysler 300, later identified as 27-year-old Glenn Daryl Kelley III, had run a red light and almost struck their vehicle at the intersection of US 27 and Main Street.
After the near-crash, Kelley began “driving erratically” ahead of the victim, but then slowed down to be right next to the victim’s car. That’s when the victim heard a pop and his front windows shattered.
“The apparent path of the bullet was at face level of the victim,” deputies said. Thankfully, the victim was not hurt.
A description of the driver and vehicle allowed Hardee County deputies to locate Kelley at his home address in Bowling Green. Officials found a firearm inside his car and were able to confirm that Kelley was the driver at the time of the incident.
Kelley was taken to the Highlands County Jail on charges of attempted second-degree homicide and firing a weapon into a vehicle.
