A Cape Coral man was arrested following a shooting at a Wawa along Alico Road that left one person injured.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was conducting patrols in the area when he heard a gunshot from the gas station.
The deputy saw the suspect, 22-year-old RD, in a black convertible Ford Mustang attempting to make a getaway on Saturday.
The LCSO deputy stopped the car, and additional units came to help. D was taken into custody, and the LCSO said deputies found a gun in the vehicle’s center console.
Investigators learned that D and the victim were in a verbal altercation while D returned to his vehicle. The LCSO said D pulled out a gun as he was driving away and fired once at the victim.
The victim was hit in the abdomen.
According to the LCSO, the victim was transported to a hospital, where they remained in stable condition.
D was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
According to the LCSO, his criminal history includes multiple charges of burglary and theft in connection with a 2021 case.
