A Naples man was arrested for leading Collier County deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a chase in a stolen pickup truck.

Around 9:11 p.m. Saturday, FHP helped the Collier County Sheriff’s Office in the pursuit of a driver in a stolen Ford F-250 that was also reportedly involved in a burglary in Lee County.

According to FHP, the vehicle was heading north on I-75 and approaching Corkscrew Road.

The driver sped along several roadways in the chase that stretched over multiple counties.

Troopers were able to stop the vehicle with a PIT Maneuver on Alico Road and Ben Hill Griffin Parkway.

However, the driver ran and hid in a drainage canal, according to FHP.

Troopers found the driver, identified as David Alfonso, 36, a short time later.

FHP, CCSO and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were all on the scene. According to FHP, no troopers were injured.

Alfonso is facing the following charges:

  • Aggravated Fleeing to Elude
  • Reckless Driving
  • License Suspended (Habitual Offender with 18 prior suspensions)
