Man arrested for stealing $800 worth of Lego sets from North Naples Target

A man was arrested after deputies say he stole approximately $800 worth of Lego sets from a Target in North Naples.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, on the afternoon of June 24, a man later identified as Juan Sarmina-Flores, 20, entered the store at 2415 Tarpon Bay Blvd.

The asset protection officer recognized Sarmina-Flores as the same man who was wanted in theft cases at two Cape Coral Target stores a few days prior.

The CCSO report states that Sarmina-Flores put six boxes of Lego sets in his cart, totaling $799.94, and tried to leave the store without paying. When the asset protection officer confronted Sarmina-Flores and asked him to come back inside the store, he refused and fled the scene in his vehicle.

In July, an “Attempt to Identify” bulletin with Sarmina-Flores’ image was created and shared with law enforcement agencies across southwestern Florida.

On July 10, a detective with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office identified Sarmina-Flores as the suspect in the North Naples Target theft, as well as the three separate thefts at the Cape Coral Target stores, CCSO said.

Sarmina-Flores was contacted by Cape Coral police, and he mentioned wanting to turn in the Lego sets in his car from one of the Cape Coral stores. The sets were recovered by CCSO.

CCSO detectives met with Sarmina-Flores and arrested him on Aug. 6. He faces a charge of grand theft, $750-$5,000.
