The Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of 39-year-old Jenri Fuentes Rodriguez following a series of collisions that culminated in a fatal traffic accident. The devastating chain of events unfolded in the early hours of February 25, 2024, leading to the tragic death of 59-year-old Ann Marie Rutkowski.
The incident began when Rodriguez, reportedly leaving a nightclub, was involved in an initial collision with an occupied vehicle at Waters Avenue and Himes Avenue. Instead of stopping, Rodriguez fled the scene, only to be involved in another hit-and-run in a McDonald’s parking lot shortly thereafter.
Continuing his reckless journey, Rodriguez was traveling at a high rate of speed along Waters Avenue when he ran a red light. This action caused a horrific crash involving another vehicle. The impact was so severe that both vehicles flipped multiple times, with Rutkowski’s vehicle being forced into a wooden utility pole, resulting in her immediate death at the scene.
Rodriguez was taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Upon his discharge, he was arrested and transported to Orient Road Jail, where he now faces a charge of vehicular homicide. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as the investigation continues.
Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his condolences to the victim’s family, stating, “My prayers are with this woman’s family, as their loved one’s life was taken because of the reckless actions of another individual.” He assured the community that detectives are meticulously gathering evidence to ensure Rodriguez is held fully accountable for his actions.
