CLEWISTON, Fla. —
One man is dead after a shooting in the area of Midstate Loop in Clewiston Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies received a call saying that a man had just been shot at approximately 1:21 p.m. The caller also identified the vehicle the suspect was driving when leaving the victim’s home.
According to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, approximately 9 minutes later, Clewiston police found the vehicle and took the suspect into custody.
Detectives found the victim lying on the ground in the backyard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to HCSO, the suspect, Yoel Ramos, 50, was arrested for shooting his longtime friend, 50-year-old Donato Perez of Belle Glade.
Deputies said it was reported that Ramos approached Perez in the backyard, and they began to argue. According to HCSO, Ramos then pointed a gun at Perez and shot him.
According to the sheriff’s office, officials were notified that Ramos had dialed 911 and reported himself to the Clewiston Police Department. He told them where he would be waiting for them.
Officers then responded to 841 East Ventura and detained Ramos before turning him over to HCSO detectives.
Ramos was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and is being held in the Hendry County Jail. HCSO said his bond will be set at his arraignment.
