Man charged in New Year’s Day stabbing at Stuart’s Smith Turner Park

The Stuart Police Department announced Wednesday an arrest in connection with a deadly stabbing that occurred at a park on New Year’s Day.

S L. B, 49, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing. On Jan. 1, the police department said its officers responded to a 911 call of a man stabbed at S T P.

When officers arrived at the scene within one minute of the 911 call, they rendered aid to the victim and began its investigation.

The victim was transported to Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce where he later died.

During its investigation, officers were able to obtain a detailed description of the suspect. Officers located B within an hour of the stabbing and took him into custody on a warrant for a parole violation.

B has been held in the Martin County Jail since Jan. 2 without bail. The police department also credited those in the community who came forward with information about the incident.
