DAVENPORT, Fla. (WFLA) — One man has died following a two-vehicle crash on Sunday morning, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Around 8:33 a.m., Polk County Fire Rescue and Polk County deputies arrived on the scene located at US 27 at Poitras Road Two.

Investigators said an 84-year-old man driving a 2021 Ford EcoSport SUV tried to turn left onto Poitras Two Road and crossed into the path of a 2018 Mazda sedan driven by a 27-year-old man.

The 84-year-old driver suffered blunt force trauma and internal injuries. He was flown to a hospital in Osceola County but passed away during emergency surgery.

The southbound lanes of US 27 were closed for approximately three and a half hours.

The crash remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
