A man is dead after he caught fire in the parking lot of a Port Charlotte shopping center on Tuesday, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
Charlotte County Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene at Port Charlotte Town Center mall, where a man had burns from head to toe.
A helicopter was requested to transport the man to the hospital. However, he began to go into cardiac arrest as the helicopter was landing.
Due to the lack of space for CPR in the helicopter, the man was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The deceased victim’s name has not been released, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the state fire marshal are investigating.
