Man dies after officials find him unresponsive in Hyde Park parking lot, JSO says

A man died on Saturday afternoon after he was found unresponsive in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the Hyde Park neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO said the man, who was in his 50s, was in the driver’s seat of a Ford sedan that was “wedged against the left rear of an unoccupied, parked F-150” in the parking lot of Magnolia Terrace Apartments on Jammes Road.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue arrived at the scene shortly after 2:30 p.m. and attempted to provide medical aid to the man as he was taken to a local hospital, but he was later declared dead.

“There is a possibility that the man experienced a medical emergency as the damage to the vehicles was superficial,” JSO said.

The fatal crash is the 160th to occur in Duval County in 2024. JSO said that number is pacing behind 2023’s total of 175.

Police say their traffic enforcement strategies have contributed to reducing traffic fatalities. With a few more days left in this year, they’re encouraging people to be safe on the road to prevent fatality numbers from increasing.
