Man dies after SUV crashes into canal in southwest Miami-Dade

A man has died after he crashed his SUV into a canal Friday morning in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities confirmed.

The accident occurred at about 2:40 a.m. in the area of Southwest 167th Avenue and 42nd Street.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies were spotted at the scene.

Deputies confirmed that the driver crashed his Nissan SUV through a barrier before it went into the canal.

They said the victim was transported by MDFR to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to MDFR, divers searched the canal to ensure there was no one else in the vehicle or water. They confirmed no one else was found.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
