A man is dead and an investigation is underway after a van ended up in a canal off I-95 and the Hillsboro Boulevard exit ramp early Sunday morning.
Police tell BocaNewsNow.com that the driver of the van, whose name has not yet been released, failed to negotiate the curve when exiting I-95 at Hillsboro Blvd around 7:10 Sunday morning. The driver seemingly lost control and plummeted into the canal, which is really a holding pond. Divers from the Broward Sheriff’s Office retrieved the man’s body.
Florida Highway Patrol shared this narrative with BocaNewsNow.com: “(The van) became airborne as it traveled in a southwesterly direction into the ditch and began to overturn. (The van) collided into the fence and continued to rollover. The driver was ejected. (The van) landed on its wheel submerged into the canal water, facing north. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene at 7:25AM.”
It was unclear why the driver failed to navigate the curve correctly. He is only identified at this point as a 26 year old male from Deerfield Beach.
